First Injection Approved in the United States to Dissolve Fat Cells

Kybella® is a new medication, recently approved for the treatment of moderate to severe submental fat in adults.  Fat in this area has earned the popular reputation as “double chin” fat, and is a common concern for both men and women.

Submental fullness, or “double chin” fat, is often genetic, an effect of aging or weight gain, or simply persistent fat that will not improve with diet and exercise.  In the past, the only options for treating this stubborn fat included invasive procedures such as liposuction or surgery.  Kybella ®, on the other hand, is a non-surgical option and can be performed in the office by a trained provider.  With just a few in-office sessions, candidates for this procedure may improve their jawline contour without surgery!

How does Kybella® work?  Kybella® is an injectable medication of patented synthetic deoxycholic acid, a substance that occurs naturally and aids in the metabolism of dietary fat.  This medication works by causing cell lysis of fat cells in the treatment area.  The fatty contents are released into the bloodstream and naturally metabolized by the body.

Kybella® injections are performed in a series of treatments spaced no less than one month apart.  Typical results appear within weeks to months, and improve further as the series of injections take place.

Bowes Dermatology is pleased to offer patients this new minimally invasive treatment option to help patients significantly improve and contour their jawline.  Call (305) 856-6519 to be placed on our waiting list!
