What are Fillers?
Fillers are injectable substances used to correct lines, wrinkles and the deeper folds of the face. In the United States, the predominant type of filler uses a gel of hyaluronic acid. The latter is a natural substance found in human skin, which confers great volume as it is highly hydrophilic (water-loving).
Filler injection treatments are very well-tolerated by patients, and a triple numbing cream is typically applied for 30 to 60 minutes prior to the procedure to significantly reduce any type of discomfort.
Fillers not only fill in lines, but also they can create a lifting effect on the face. When several types of fillers are combined they can accomplish:
- Restoration of volume to the cheeks
- Lifting of the corners of the mouth and jowls
- Softening of the nasolabial folds
- Lip augmentation and rejuvenation
