Skinvive

What is Skinvive?

Skinvive™ is the first and only hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable indicated to improve skin smoothness of the cheeks and hydrate from within, without a series of treatments. The treatment can be used on all skin tones and helps skin look hydrated, healthy and glowing. Skinvive can:

  • Improve fine lines
  • Increase radiance and glow
  • Improve uneven skin texture
  • Improve dry skin or lack of hydration

How it works

Hyaluronic acid increases your skin’s natural hydrating ability to retain moisture and softness. Skinvive by Juvéderm is a modified hyaluronic acid gel formula that helps the skin retain its natural moisture and softness leading to an improvement in the skin smoothness of the cheeks. Microdroplets of hyaluronic acid help address the effects, such as texture changes and dullness. Skinvive boosts your skin’s internal hydration for a more glowing appearance.

What to expect

Multiple microdroplet injections during which a tiny amount of product is injected just below the skin. A typical treatment session takes 10-15 minutes. Treatment requires minimal downtime.

Results

Results from Skinvive last six months with optimal treatment. (Glow was reported by patients using a validated questionnaire that included satisfaction with how radiant their skin looked.) An optional touch up may be needed to achieve the desired effect, so we recommend seeing your licensed specialist every six months to see if you should get treated.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

What is PRP Therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are a simple, innovative, nonsurgical procedure that provides compelling facial rejuvenation results. By leveraging the patient’s own natural healing abilities, platelet-rich blood plasma can produce impressive cosmetic benefits. The procedure has wide application, from facial rejuvenation to the treatment of injuries. PRP injections are offered as a standalone procedure or in addition to other aesthetic services for cosmetic correction.

FAQs about PRP

Platelet-rich plasma describes a natural component of a patient’s blood that is extracted during an in-office blood draw. The samples are generally spun in a centrifuge, which allows the platelet-rich plasma to be separated from the other parts of the blood, like lower-quality plasma and red blood cells. Often called “liquid gold,” this yellow-colored liquid contains growth factors, which are proteins that promote healing. The platelet-rich plasma also contains proteins that assist with the growth of new cells in damaged tissues. Healthy cells are prompted to replicate, effectively replacing damaged cells. Collagen growth also improves, which is the foundation of youthful, beautiful skin. The science behind the efficacy of the procedure is simple, and occurs naturally in the human body every day. Regenerative medicine manipulates this process to result in higher quality skin tissue.

PRP injections first became popular as a addition to microneedling procedures, when platelet-rich plasma is topically applied over the treated skin. Through the controlled injuries caused by the perforations of the tiny needles, the plasma can easily enter the skin and jump-start the healing process. The technique has evolved to include different procedures and ways to distribute the platelet-rich plasma.

Depending on the patient’s aesthetic needs, between one to six vials of blood (10-60ml), will be drawn to produce enough PRP for the procedure. This is generally performed the same day as the procedure. This small blood donation will not negatively affect the patients’s body or the procedure, and any extra plasma can be used for additional same-day treatments.

Every treatment in aesthetic medicine carries some degree of risk, but any adverse outcomes are significantly minimized through the use of autologous (your own) platelets. The body will not reject applied or injected PRP because the body recognizes the biomaterial as its own, rather than a foreign substance. Though the plasma will not negatively impact the healing process, it is possible that infection and nerve and tissue damage may present issues. Such complications are unlikely as the procedure is performed in the controlled office setting.

Providers and staff at Riverchase Dermatology are careful to ensure patient comfort during their time in the office. Topically applied numbing medications like lidocaine will help prevent any painful sensations. Additionally, post-procedure icing and drugstore pain medication will help prevent swelling and discomfort.

When PRP is performed with certain procedures, like facial fillers, some results may be immediately visible. In other cases, like following laser skin resurfacing and skin rejuvenation, results will become apparent over time with gradual improvement. It can be several months until patients see the final results.

The typical number of PRP treatments needed is between three and six, depending on which procedure is performed. The plasma may be administered in different ways to suit the needs of the cosmetic procedure.

Dark circles and puffiness below the eyes can be improved by PRP injections. The plasma will help to increase collagen production, creating firmer skin that effectively conceals minor cosmetic defects.

PRP Therapy Procedures

Platelet-rich plasma injections are administered for three types of procedures that the plasma is clinically proven to enhance: facial rejuvenation, post-laser treated skin, and hair loss.

Facial Rejuvenation

As the skin ages and lines and wrinkles develop throughout, platelet-rich plasma can be injected under the skin to target these areas. The liquid gold can benefit the face, neck and hands through a series of injections that often work in tandem with dermal fillers. Filler materials that accompany the platelet-rich plasma are generally synthetic hyaluronic acid fillers from the Juvederm, Restyane and Belotero lines, or the patient’s natural fat. PRP has been shown to promote viability of stem cells found in fatty tissue. The combination procedure provides the benefit of instant volume restoration, which lifts the skin creases and depressions, and the long term benefit of healthier cell growth to produce more youthful-looking skin.

Post-Laser Treatment

Similar to how microneedling creates injuries in the skin, which can then heal to create an even healthier structure amplified by the application of platelet-rich plasma, the same concept applies to resurfacing lasers. During a resurfacing laser treatment, the outer layers of the epidermis are removed. This provides easy access for the PRP liquid to reach underlying tissue when it is spread across the skin. Not only will the enriched plasma speed up the healing process, but its nutrients will also enhance the final results of the treated skin. PRP is used after treatments such as microneedling.

Hair Loss

Platelet-rich plasma can be injected directly into the scalp into areas of hair loss. This method is effective for treating pattern hair loss, or androgenic alopecia in both men and women. The mechanism of action from various studies show that growth factors in PRP act on the stem cells in hair follicles to promote the growth of new hair.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is an injection treatment used to eliminate small- to medium-sized varicose veins and spider veins or dilated capillaries that lie close to the surface and mar the appearance of otherwise beautiful legs. “Spider” veins are superficial telangiectasias, tiny vessels that are red, blue or purple in color. The majority of these veins present as a cosmetic problem. Unsightly blood vessels caused by sun damage or rosacea can be rapidly removed without downtime.

Sclerotherapy FAQs

A very small needle is used to inject a sclerosing solution into a varicose or “spider” vein. Different solutions are used depending on the type of vein. Different strengths of the solutions are used based on the size of the vessel. Once injected, the cells that line the vein wall (endothelium) will become irritated, inflamed and damaged. External compression is applied using support hose and, sometimes, cotton balls with tape. The compression causes the vein walls to seal together and the vein no longer can transport blood. Your body then breaks down and absorbs the damaged vein. When healing is complete the vein is no longer visible. Reducing or eliminating varicose veins can improve your circulation and symptoms of heaviness, aching, and fatigue. Please notify us on your first visit if you have any history of migraines and/or patent foramen ovale (PFO), a small opening in the wall that separates the two upper chambers of the heart.

Photographs will be taken before treatment is initiated. This helps to monitor your progress. Your legs will look worse before they look better. After the vein is damaged the body needs time to heal. Most people will notice a dramatic improvement approximately four weeks after their initial treatment. Maximal improvement often takes several months and several treatments. There is no guarantee sclerotherapy will be effective in every case. Some veins and areas will need to be retreated. Recurrence of the same vein treated rarely occurs with proper injection technique and compliance with post-treatment instructions. Periodic re-evaluations are encouraged so that any new veins that develop can be injected before they become too large or too numerous.

Both laser and injection treatments are comfortably done without the need for anesthesia or pain medication. The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient depending on the type, size, and quantity of veins to be treated. Varicose veins and “spider” veins almost always require more than one injection session. Subsequent treatments are usually scheduled every 6-8 weeks to allow time for the body to respond to the treatment. It takes time for your body to respond to the injections. On average, patients experience about a 40% improvement after each session. It is important to follow the post-treatment instructions to optimize your results. Your body will continue to heal and “fade” injection sites for months after treatment.

The procedure usually takes less than an hour and has a limited recovery period. Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a solution, either Asclera (polidocanol) or hypertonic saline, directly into the unwanted varicose veins. Within a few weeks, the veins collapse and fade from sight, eliminating both the unsightly appearance and any discomfort the veins might have been causing.

GentleMax Pro

The GentleMax Pro provides a fast, easy and effective laser therapy for treatment of rosacea and red or brown spots, spider veins and hair removal.

GentleMax Pro FAQs

For pigmented or vascular lesions, the light source in GentleMax Pro is effective at targeting and removing sunspots. This laser system offers a dual laser wavelength to effectively target and destroy dark spots. Typically, one to two sessions are sufficient to remove the desired sun spots or excess pigmentation.

If you’re not happy with shaving, tweezing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair, laser hair removal may be an option worth considering. Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles absorbs the light. That destroys the hair.

Laser hair removal is more than just ”zapping” unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform and carries potential risks. Before getting laser hair removal, you should thoroughly check the credentials of the doctor or technician performing the procedure.

If you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit plucking, waxing and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking.

You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.

What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal

Just before the procedure, a Riverchase provider will trim the hair that will be undergoing treatment to a few millimeters above the skin. The laser equipment will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair being treated as well as your skin color.

Depending on the laser or light source used, you and the Riverchase provider will need to wear appropriate eye protection. It will also be necessary to protect the outer layers of your skin with a cold gel or special cooling device. This will help the laser light penetrate the skin.

Next, the technician will give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watch the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for bad reactions.

When the procedure is completed, you may be given ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams or lotions, or cold water to ease any discomfort. You may schedule your next treatment four to six weeks later. You’ll get treatments until hair stops growing.

Recovery from Laser Hair Removal Treatment

For a day or two afterward, the treated area of your skin will look and feel like it’s sunburned. Cool compresses and moisturizers may help. If your face was treated, you can wear makeup the next day unless your skin is blistering.

Over the next month, your treated hair will fall out. Wear sunscreen for the following month to help prevent temporary changes in the color of the treated skin.

Blisters are rare but are more likely in people with darker complexions. Other potential side effects are swelling, redness, and scarring. Permanent scarring or changes in skin color are rare.

Underarm Sweat Treatment

miraDry: A Nonsurgical Solution

miraDry is a cosmetic procedure that uses microwave energy to reduce underarm sweat, odor and hair glands in the underarm area with minimal downtime. It is the only FDA-cleared treatment that dramatically reduces excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) in as little as one appointment. miraDry FAQs

miraDry uses thermal energy to create heat in the area where bothersome sweat and odor glands, as well as hair follicles reside and safely eliminates them.

While your body does need sweat glands to cool itself, your body has 2-4 million sweat glands – only about 2% are found in your underarms. Eliminating this 2% of sweat glands does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself. With miraDry, you will experience the many benefits of reducing sweat in the underarm area, but you will continue to sweat in other areas of your body.

You can expect immediate and lasting results.¹ Once the miraDry treatment eliminates the sweat and odor glands, they’re gone for good. The treatment is clinically proven to have an average of 82% sweat reduction and 89% odor reduction. As with any aesthetic treatment, patient results and experiences may vary.

You can see results in as little as one treatment. However, as with any aesthetic treatment, your Riverchase provider will determine the best protocol for your desired results.

An appointment will generally last about one hour.

Most patients describe the procedure as painless with little to no downtime. Local anesthesia is administered to the underarms prior to the treatment for patient comfort. Most patients return to regular activities, including work, immediately. Exercise is typically resumed within several days. You may experience swelling, numbness, bruising and sensitivity in the underarm area for several days after treatment.

This procedure has been used in over 150,000 treatments worldwide with an excellent safety record. It’s also been cleared by the FDA to dramatically reduce underarm sweat in as little as one appointment.

Some localized soreness or swelling will occur, and that symptom typically clears within a few weeks. Some patients have short-term altered sensation in the skin of their underarms or upper arms, which gradually disappears.

Pricing can vary depending on the treatment protocol to achieve your desired results and will be discussed during your consultation.

miraDry typically is not covered by insurance. However, you may be able to use your HSA/FSA funds toward miraDry. Please contact your HSA/FSA manager to find out.

Silhouette InstaLift

Sagging skin is one of the major contributors to a tired appearance. Silhouette InstaLift is a minimally invasive, in-office procedure to re-contour your mid-face by lifting the deeper layers of your skin for a more youthful appearance. Our providers at Riverchase have received comprehensive training on this breakthrough anti-aging treatment. They can answer all of your questions about the procedure and create a treatment plan to ensure you achieve the natural-looking results you desire.

Silhouette InstaLift FAQs

During the short in-office procedure, your Riverchase provider will insert the patented Silhouette InstaLift sutures to lift the deeper layers of the skin in your mid-face or cheek area. The treatment does not require general anesthesia, and takes approximately 45 minutes. You will see immediate lifting with volume over time, and recovery time is minimal.

The unique Silhouette InstaLift sutures are naturally absorbed by your body over time and stimulate the production of collagen to aid in healthy skin renewal for natural-looking, long-lasting results.

Silhouette InstaLift is the ideal minimally invasive solution for men and women who are interested in refreshing their appearance without major surgery, injections, or lasers. It offers an FDA-approved technology to lift sagging facial skin. Suitable candidates have good skin quality, with moderate sagging of the skin in the mid-face. Skin should not be too thick or heavy or too thin.

The device should not be used in patients with any known allergy or foreign body sensitivities to plastic biomaterial or in situations where the standard procedure is not recommended based on a patient’s specific health condition, such as infection. The device should also not be used in patients appearing to have very thin soft tissue of the face in which the implant may be palpable or in patients with excessively heavy skin.

Silhouette InstaLift sutures are made from glycolide / L-lactide (PLGA), a polymer that is frequently used in medical devices and is well tolerated by the body. The fully resorbable sutures have bidirectional cones. The sutures lift and add volume while the bidirectional cones hold the suture and cheek sub-dermis in an elevated position.

During the in-office procedure, a specially trained Riverchase provider will begin by marking the areas of desired lift on the patient. The provider will gently insert a needle to a depth of 5mm and guide it through the subcutaneous tissue of the mid-face and extract at each bidirectional exit point. The sutures have bi-directional absorbable cones that hold them in place. The treatment is generally well tolerated by patients and takes about 45 minutes.

No. Your provider will only use a local anesthetic to numb the area before inserting the sutures.

Silhouette InstaLift is an entirely different technology and procedure. Rather than just repositioning the skin, Silhouette InstaLift focuses on the underlying layers of the skin, because that’s what causes sagging. Another important advance is that the sutures are not permanent; they are absorbed by the body over time. As they are absorbed, they stimulate collagen renewal, which helps achieve a younger, natural look.

After placement, patients may experience a minimal acute inflammatory tissue reaction. Symptoms may include minor pain, swelling and bruising.

HydraFacial

HydraFacial is an invigorating treatment that can be given in as little as 30 minutes. It delivers long-term skin health and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of all skin types. It offers instant, noticeable results with no downtime or irritation. The HydraFacial treatment at Riverchase removes dead skin cells and extracts impurities while simultaneously bathing the new skin with cleansing, hydrating and moisturizing serums. The treatment is soothing, refreshing, non-irritating and immediately effective.

The face is the most common treatment area, as that is typically where clogged pores, wrinkles, and other skin issues are most common. However, the neck and décolletage areas can also be treated if there are signs of aging, discoloration, or other issues.

HydraFacial FAQs

The HydraFacial system is a noninvasive skin treatment that works by cleansing, hydrating and exfoliating the skin, removing impurities, and nourishing the skin. A specialized tool starts by cleansing and exfoliating the skin, removing dead skin cells and oils. During the second stage of the treatment, salicylic and glycolic acid are delivered to the skin to loosen dirt and oils in the pores and help prevent acne flare-ups. Then, the debris that has been loosened is gently suctioned out, including blackheads and other skin impurities. Finally, a solution containing peptides and hyaluronic acid is delivered to the skin for a rejuvenated, glowing complexion. Additionally, patients may elect to choose one of four boosts designed to help address specific skin issues. These boost options include:

  • BrightAlive: Brightens skin and helps resolve discoloration
  • Growth Factor: Helps soften fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dermabuilder: Fights signs of aging and delivers powerful peptides
  • Britenol: Minimizes dark spots and evens complexion

One of the biggest advantages of the HydraFacial is that it can benefit nearly any skin type. The multi-step treatment is gentle yet effective. It can be used on a regular basis to promote optimal skin health.

HydraFacial treatments are great for people with sun damage, acne, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, brown spots, and poor elasticity, tone, and texture. It’s also a great option for people with sensitive skin or acne, as the solutions are non-irritating and can help keep sensitive skin nourished and protected. Patients love that the treatment is easy, convenient, and requires no downtime.

Nearly anyone who wants to experience hydrated, healthier skin is a good candidate. Any skin type can benefit from HydraFacial, and the specialized boosts that can be added are tailored to specific concerns. Candidates should understand both the benefits and the limitations of the treatment and discuss their options with a qualified professional prior to making a decision. Patients will need to follow all pre- and post-treatment instructions, which may include ceasing the use of all retin-A (tretinoin) or alpha-hydroxy acids a few days prior to each treatment.

One of the biggest benefits of the Hydrafacial is how gentle it is. Following treatment, there should be little to no discomfort and absolutely no downtime. Patients can get back to their normal activities almost at once while enjoying the beautiful glow the treatment provides.

Though patients should see improvement immediately after a Hydrafacial treatment, the skin will benefit most from an ongoing regimen of treatments. Patients who have Hydrafacial treatments about once a month will notice ongoing benefits, such as clearer, brighter skin, and they may even see their overall skin health improve. Patients can expect to notice brighter, clearer skin for at least a week after each treatment. Getting regular treatments can help prolong the results and produce healthier skin overall.

What to Expect

Though the HydraFacial is a noninvasive procedure, you will need to discuss your goals with your Riverchase dermatologist or technician to ensure that the treatment is a good fit for your skincare needs. During this consultation, you and your provider will discuss your skin’s unique challenges and come up with a treatment plan that best suits your needs. This is an ideal opportunity to ask any questions you may have about treatment.

A HydraFacial takes place in a comfortable office setting, and no anesthesia is needed during the procedure. The proprietary handpiece uses several different tips to exfoliate and cleanse the skin first, gently massaging away dead skin, oil and debris while hydrating the skin. After this, another tip is used to extract oil and dirt from deep within the pores, and antioxidant-rich serums are delivered to the skin, resulting in immediate brightening of the skin. Patients will feel a cool sensation during the treatment but should not expect to feel any pain. Following the treatment, patients should see positive changes in the skin almost immediately.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are an excellent way to jump-start a treatment program and achieve smoother, healthier-looking skin. Used alone, or in concert with other treatments, they can dramatically soften lines, treat acne, and revitalize skin tone, color, and texture. Chemical peels can also be used to treat melasma, age/liver spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and sun-damaged skin.

Even if you do not have specific skin concerns or complaints, a chemical peel from a skilled Riverchase provider will improve the overall health and appearance of your skin.

Chemical Peels FAQs

Chemical peels typically use glycolic acid, salicylic acid, resorcinol, and trichloroacetic acid. The depth of the peel varies according to the results we want to achieve. Mild peels are skin refreshers, and allow you to return to your daily activities quickly. Deeper peels provide a more dramatic reversal of damage from the effects of sun exposure and require more recovery time.

Dermatologists use chemical peels to improve skin tone and texture, to diminish the signs of aging, and to treat common skin conditions, such as acne, melasma, and sun-damaged skin. Chemical peels are most frequently applied to the face but can also be used on the hands, neck, and chest to improve the overall health of the skin.

Chemical peels use ingredients that promote skin rejuvenation, such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, resorcinol, and trichloroacetic acid. These agents smooth the texture of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers, revealing healthier, new skin beneath. In addition, chemical peels stimulate collagen production, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and melanin re-distribution, leading to improved skin tone.

After your chemical peel, you can expect:

  • A reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
  • More even skin tone
  • Brighter skin complexion
  • Smoother skin
