Breast Lift Without Implants

Breast Lift Without ImplantsThere are a variety of surgical techniques that can be used to restore the breasts to a more youthful position and shape. A breast lift with implants will increase your cup size. If you are happy with the size of your breasts, however, consider a breast lift without implants.

Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that breast augmentation is still the most frequently performed plastic surgery. However, breast lift procedures (with and without implants) have grown 70% since 2000, outpacing breast augmentation by two to one.

Riverchase Rejuventation Center’s board certified aesthetic plastic surgeons, Dr. W.G. Eshbaugh, Jr. and Dr. Robert Chami, have extensive experience with breast lifts, breast augmentation and breast reduction surgeries. Combining the science of surgery with the art of sculpting, their goals are to create breasts that are both natural and beautiful and achieve the best proportions possible for your body frame.

If your breasts have lost their elasticity, shape and firmness due to pregnancy, breastfeeding or gravity, a breast lift can raise sagging breasts and nipples to a higher position, improve firmness and projection, and reshape them. Breast lifts can be done with and without implants.

Do You Need Implants?

Breast lift surgery without implants works well for women who have enough existing breast tissue for the surgeon to use to create fullness and who are not interested in larger breasts. Using short incisions to minimize scarring, the surgeon will raise sagging breast tissue from underneath to the top of the breasts (known as the upper pole) and reshape them, giving them a soft, full, perkier shape.

In some women, it can be difficult to create sustainable fullness in the upper pole by means of a breast lift alone. If you have small breasts and insufficient tissue for breast reshaping, a breast lift with implants is a good alternative. You may also find that the fullness achieved from a breast lift may be easier to maintain over the long term when implants are used.

Without implants, a breast lift will be more economical, but it’s more important for you to be completely satisfied with the look of your breasts. Think of the implants in terms of fullness rather than size, and make the best decision based on your anatomy and goals.

When to Consider a Breast Lift

  • If pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity, significant weight gain or loss, normal aging, and/or heredity have taken a toll on the shape of your breasts, resulting in sagging;
  • If the tissue surrounding the nipple or areola has become stretched;
  • If the nipples and areolas point downward, especially if they are positioned below the breast crease;
  • If your surgeon thinks that breast implants alone are not likely to achieve the fullness and contour you desire.

Breast lift surgery can be done successfully on large, heavy breasts, but the results may not be as long-lasting as when the procedure is performed on smaller breasts.

If you have adequate breast tissue, are in good general health, and have realistic expectations, you may be a good candidate for a breast lift without implants.
